Reflections on the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report: Parenting Under Pressure

Universal Challenges

I was bowled over by one powerful feeling. COMPLETE VALIDATION. I switched professions to become a parent coach because I struggled with my four girls and saw so many parents feeling similarly overwhelmed. And now the head of the U.S Public Health Service is finally on board.

Behavior struggles like this: technology, behavior struggles, and the Pandora's box.

These are realities that almost every parent experiences, no matter their situation.

And when parents are struggling, they sometimes (“sometimes”? I’d say more like ALL THE TIME) feel tremendous guilt and shame, which fuels the negative spiral.

But it’s in these overwhelming moments that we can take a different approach. Instead of trying to tackle everything at once, focusing on small, intentional changes can make a real difference. That’s the heart of my MicroStep Method®—helping parents shift from reacting to these pressures to making manageable, meaningful shifts.

  • It’s not about fixing everything at once, But about reclaiming control one small moment at a time.

Parents often feel weighed down by the pressure to get it right all the time.

The guilt, the second-guessing, the constant feeling that we’re not enough—it’s exhausting and only adds to the stress. But here’s the truth: parenting isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.

  • It’s not about getting it right all the time, but giving ourselves the grace to be imperfect and focus on progress, not perfection.

The social isolation of both working parents and stay-at-home caregivers really stands out. Isolation can expand, particularly when one lacks a supportive community or "village" to lean on. This sense of isolation isn’t only about the physical act of caring for children—it’s about missing out on the social connections, emotional validation, and practical support that earlier generations often found naturally in communities.

When parents feel unsupported, stress levels rise–and it affects not just their well-being but also their children. The idea that we should be able to do it all on our own is a myth that only perpetuates the stress.

  • It’s not about doing it alone, but about finding the support and tools that make a difference.

Parenting at Every Stage

Then there’s the reality that once we feel like we’ve finally nailed it, the next stage shows up with a new, unique set of challenges and worries. It can feel bottomless! But here’s the truth—whether you’re managing the exhaustion of sleepless nights with a newborn, the sassiness of your 8 year old, or the emotional rollercoaster of adolescence, the solution isn’t all that different: it’s about intentional moments that help keep you grounded.

And that’s exactly where the MicroStep Method® shines—helping you make small, meaningful shifts, no matter the stage. I help parents find strategies that work for right now—because the stresses and needs of parenting shift, but the power of small, purposeful actions remains constant.

As your child grows, the approach evolves, but the goal remains the same—building a resilient, connected family.

Coaching and Support

Through both group and one-on-one coaching, I teach parents essential skills to improve family relationships and reduce stress. MicroSteps are small, daily shifts that create big changes—like finding calm in chaos or transforming a difficult moment into an opportunity for connection.

Parents often feel like they’re left to "figure things out" on their own, but with a simple, structured approach, they gain the confidence to make progress without feeling overwhelmed. It’s not about overhauling your life or your parenting—it's about taking one MicroStep at a time toward more peace and connection at home.

Parent coaching goes beyond simply learning tools; it creates a positive ripple effect throughout the entire family–Kids do better when they feel better; they thrive when their parents are empowered and supported.

You don’t have to go it alone. With the right guidance, tools, and community, you can have more connection, resilience and laughter…and that’s the goal, isn’t it?
